A surprisingly scarce date in the Seated Dime series, as the mintage of the 1849 was not all that modest at over 800,000 coins. Many must have fallen victim to melting from which the 1853 reduction in weight ensued.
Original steely gray in color, the fields of this coin are slightly reflective, the strike full, and there are no marks to call out.
