$0.05 1866 With Rays Shield 5c Nickel - AU
At first glance one would think this coin an XF, simply because it doesn't look bright enough to be an AU.
If the truth be known, this is a fantastic, uncleaned 1866 Shield nickel with rays. Plenty of mint luster is faintly evident through the thick layer of originality on both sides. So many of these have been brightened that I was elated when this virgin specimen crossed my path.
No distractions at all . . . just plain old dirty, the way they're supposed to be found.
